2015 Chevrolet Spark EV
The 2015 Chevrolet Spark EV is an all-electric five-door hatchback subcompact or "city car" intended primarily for use in urban and surrounding areas. The Spark EV comfortably seats four adult passengers and is the first all-electric passenger car produced by GM since the EV1 was retired in 1999.
With the new 2015 Spark EV, Chevrolet is taking a positive forward step towards providing customers with several levels of electric solutions towards the problems felt in the areas of lifestyle and transportation of populations around the globe.
The 2015 Chevrolet Spark EV replaces the base Spark's 1.2 liter four cylinder with a permanent-magnet electric motor powered by a a 21-kWh lithium-ion battery pack manufactured by B456 systems (the company formerly known as A123 systems.) With these upgrades the Spark EV is considered to be the most efficient vehicle available on the retail market putting out 140 horsepower with an amazing 400 pound-feet of torque. This increases the horsepower of the base Spark almost two-fold and quintuples the torque. This is instant torque, meaning that when the Spark EV is started up it's ready to zip up to top speed really fast. Chevrolet states it is the quickest electric vehicle among current competitors by nearly 1.5 seconds with officially estimated acceleration going from 0-60 mph clocked at 7.6 seconds.
For customers who need to consider their budget, an electric car for traveling in the city has a lot of financial factors in its favor even beyond the obvious savings in time and gas. The Spark EV is estimated at 128 city, 109 highway and 119 combined MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent). Buyers of a new Spark EV are immediately eligible for a $7,500 Federal tax credit, and furthermore several states (including California) have additional tax breaks for switching to environmentally favorable transport options and helping to lower the carbon footprint. The park EV has been a recipient of the Kelly Blue Book "Lowest 5-year Cost to Own" award.
Buyers should bear in mind that the Chevy Spark EV is a "City Car" and should probably not be a customers first option if they do a lot of driving outside the urban area. The EPA rates the Spark EV with a respectable 82 mile range, so if your destination is more than an hour and a half in one direction you will want to know where you can stop and recharge along the way. Full recharge with the on-board 3.3-kilowatt on-board charger is approximated at 7 hours from a 240-volt power source. However, there is an optional SAE DC quick charger that when installed and hooked to the proper power source can recharge the Spark EV to 80% in only 20 minutes.
Spark EV 2LT Trim
The Special model trim for the Spark EV is the 2LT Trim level, which adds leatherette premium vinyl upholstery and several upgrades to the interior trim for the vehicle as well as automatically including the quick charger port for faster charge times. The Spark EV has 86.3 cubic feet of passenger space and folding the rear 60/40 split seats, gives 23.4 cubic inches of storage available for transporting light loads.
