Choosing between the heavy-duty 2020 Silverado 2500 and the 2019 Dodge Ram 2500 can be tough. Both can move major weight – and both get the job done in style. So which truck is more your type? Our comparison guide takes a look at these newly redesigned trucks.
Luxe Life: 2020 Silverado 2500
With four trims available (the base Work Truck, midgrade LT, sporty Custom, and high-end LTZ), the new Silverado 2500 has a little something to offer every kind of heavy-duty truck driver. If you’re looking for the most in luxury, however, we think you’ll love what the Silverado 2500 has to offer. Its high-end materials and leather upholstery options provide a very plush workday.
Like the new Silverado 2500, the 2019 Ram 2500 has been completely redesigned. It, too, aims to expand passenger space and offer a taste of the finer things with high-end options. There are actually six Ram trims on offer, giving you even more options (the base Tradesman, midgrade Big Horn/Lone Star, off-road-ready Power Wagon, upscale Laramie, stylish Longhorn, and top-of-the-line Limited). The new heavy-duty Ram can get pretty flashy, but we think the redesigned Silverado has more interior appeal with its clean-cut dash and rich cabin materials.
Ride Refinement: It’s a Tie!
This one is a draw. The 2019 Ram 2500 features a class-exclusive link-coil rear suspension, which does an excellent job of smoothing out the ride. As you’re riding along, you almost feel like you’re in a family-friendly SUV.
When you’re cruising in the 2020 Silverado 2500, the cabin stays impressively quiet and the suspension does a good job of evening out a rocky road. Although it’s a heavy-duty truck, this new model pushes the limits with its comfortable ride.
Max Trailering: 2020 Silverado 2500
Choosing a heavy-duty truck often comes down to capabilities, plain and simple. If you’re looking to tow the biggest trailer, you definitely need the Silverado 2500. Properly equipped, this pickup can tow up to 18,500 pounds.
The biggest trailer the Ram 2500 can move weighs only 17,580 pounds. Of course, this might be enough for many drivers. But, if you plan to take your heavy-duty truck to the limits, then you need the Silverado.
Move Max Payloads: 2019 Dodge Ram 2500
On the flip side, the Ram can actually haul heavier lows, depending on configuration. You can load up the 2019 Ram 2500 bed with up to 4,050 pounds’ worth of stuff. That’s good news if you make big hauls on a daily basis; this truck could even save you some extra trips.
Of course, the 2020 Silverado isn’t too far behind. Properly equipped, this heavy-duty pickup truck can haul up to 3,900 pounds. That 150-pound difference won’t matter to most drivers. If you plan to push the limits to the absolute max on a daily basis, however, you should consider the Ram 2500.
Although the 2019 Ram 2500 has its high points, the 2020 Silverado 2500 takes power, performance, and interior comfort to new heights. This newly redesigned Silverado moves heavy-duty loads in style.
