Used Chevrolet Silverado 1500
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a light-duty half-ton full-size pickup truck. It is a multi-purpose vehicle adept at serving as the weekday family vehicle, transporting home-improvement and work supplies, or towing a loaded trailer with a boat for a weekend getaway. This makes the Silverado a useful vehicle for both work and play and increases its value to a wide segment of buyers.
3rd Gen Silverado 1500
The redesigned 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is about 250 pounds lighter with a curb weight of 5605 pounds, improving the handling and comfort. and has received revised suspension tuning for a smoother ride.
New forward-hinged rear doors on extended cab models have been improved for ease of use. Newly available safety features include a forward collision alert system, a lane departure warning system, and trailer sway control that increases the safety, especially when hauling in cold weather conditions.
2007 - 2013
2nd Gen Silverado 1500
Second Generation Silverado 1500s are known for their no-nonsense performance, a reasonably refined and quiet ride even when burdened with the heavy-duty towing package.
The redesign of the cabin in the second generation addressed many weak points by increasing quality of materials and convenience of use. Additionally, the second generation has a redesigned front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering for better steering feel, handling and ride quality with a strengthened frame which contributes to the truck's impressive towing capacity. Properly equipped, a Silverado 1500 can tow up to 10,700 pounds.
Beginning in 2007 the top-of-the-line engine for the Silverado 1500 was a 6.0-liter V8 rated at 367 HorsePower. This was updated in 2009 to a 6.2-liter V8 when six-speed automatic transmission was introduced as an option for the 5.3- and 6.2-liter V8s; it became standard in the 2010 model year.
The 2008 model year received a second award in the Large Pick-up category to compliment the previous 2006 award. And in Safety tests the second generation models consistently earned top 5-star ratings for occupant protection.
1999 - 2007
1st Gen Silverado 1500
Although Chevrolet has been producing pickup trucks since 1918, the 1999 model marked the debut of "Silverado" as the big truck's formal name instead of a trim-level designation. The Silverado 1500 debuted with handsome new styling and fresh V8 engines from 4.8-6.0 liters.
Midway through the first generation a unique four-wheel-steering option (called QuadraSteer) was introduced and cut the truck's turning circle down to 37.4 feet - about 10 feet less than a typical full-size pickup. This option can be found up until the award winning 2006 model year. A hybrid gas/electric model was introduced starting in 2005 in limited quantities to Western states and Florida.
First generation Silverado 1500s are ideal for buyers concerned with function over flash as used Silverados of this era may not be as pretty as their newer counterparts but they still have a lot of performance and work capacity to offer. In all weather and all terrain the Silverado is a force to be reckoned with. The Silverado is the truck that can get the whole family and all of their toys where they need to go in a reasonable amount of time.
